When is it time to seek help for hearing loss?

Like all things relating to your health the earlier you seek help, the better it will be for you, when it comes to hearing loss, here are some signs you may be experiencing.

  • Difficulty following conversations.
  • Phone conversations becoming unclear.
  • Difficulty locating sounds or signs of tinnitus.

Most types of hearing loss are managed with hearing aids, hearing aid technology has progressed significantly over the past two decades, improving the quality of hearing aids and delivering a better customer experience.

The Australian government hearing services program allows people to access free hearing aids and services, if you are eligible, you may be entitled to.

  • Free hearing tests
  • Free of subsidised hearing aids
  • Free hearing aid adjustments
  • Maintenance and batteries for hearing aids, covered by a small annual fee.

To be eligible for the hearing service program you must be either an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia and belong to one of the following categories:

  • A pensioner concession card holder
  • A department of veteran affairs gold card holder or white card holder with issues for specific conditions that include hearing loss.
  • Receiving sickness allowance from Centrelink
  • A dependent of a person in one of the above categories
  • A member of the Australian Defence force
  • Referred by the Disability services (Disability Management Services) program.
  • A national disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participant with hearing needs, referred by a planner from the NDIS agency.
